More Mt St Helens

It is a three hour drive from Eugene to Seaquest State Park campground.

Dick fired up the BBQ and we enjoyed lunch.

It was foggy but, knowing northwest weather, we set off  to see (what was left of) the mountain. Of course before we reached Johnston Ridge Observatory the fog had burned off to reveal a mild and sunny day.

We arrived in time to hear a Ranger telling the story of the eruption then paid admission and took in a video presentation in the theater.

After the video a sign appeared “Please remain seated.” The screen rolled up and I thought someone would step out from behind the curtain to complete the presentation but the curtain rose and we were looking through a windowed wall at Mt St Helens!

Very dramatic and cool end to the presentation.

Some of us hiked to the top of a short vista trail.

There were clicking grasshoppers along the path and some kind of pesky flies at the top.

Then it was back to the campground and, again, Dick whipped up a wonderful steak, potatoes and corn-on-the-cob dinner.  Great visit!

We missed seeing Phil & Carol but since we’re all retired now we can plan to do this again soon.
